This week the blog joins Tony & Jane for their couple shoot, for a stroll around Primrose Hill. And as always, the session served as a valuable opportunity for everyone to get comfortable with the camera. Autumn always feels like such a romantic time, and taking a walk with a couple in the last stages of their wedding planning only added to the romance.
It was right at the start of Autumn; the trees were beginning to turn in colour, and others had already shed their leaves. Arriving early as always, I was joined only by keen runners and dog walkers, everyones breath vapour creating mini clouds in the crisp air. The sunshine was still low, peeking out from between the infamous London skyline, visible only in this way, from Primrose Hill.
It's been a favourite spot of mine for a very long time. There's even a photo of me (approx age 4) and my mother up here, taken by my father, in the papers, laughing and having fun. I've always come back too, over the years that I lived and worked in London. It feels like an escape, a small but significant elevation out of the city and into a peaceful space. Don't get me wrong, if you don't time it right, it's busy and and chaotic, but Sunday morning is perfect.
Tony and Jane turned up in exactly the classic coat/jacket combo a photographer dreams of for this sort of shoot. Classic and chic, but with no black! They totally trusted me over the course of this session too, and the longer we shot for, the less I needed to direct. It's so rewarding, working with couples like this, and even better when I know how much more they will enjoy their wedding photos as a result.
Here are Tony and Jane's Nearly-Wed Q&A,
QUICK NEARLY-WED Q & A:
DO YOU REMEMBER THE FIRST TIME YOU SAW EACH OTHER?
J: Yes, on my front drive! Our mutual friend and my neighbour had invited us and our children on a trip to Eurodisney. A few weeks before Tony pulled up in his car with his 3 daughters and new dog. I remember his smile.
T: I remember how bubbly and friendly Jane was, I remember her smile too.
WHEN DID YOU FIRST KNOW YOU WANTED TO MARRY THEM?
J: When meeting Tony's two grown-up daughters for the first time, Seren, my daughter (5 at the time) announced to everyone we were getting married; I was mortified but thought it was a good idea!
T: When we were in Ikea with the girls and we all sat on a big sofa for 6 and I suggested it would be great to set up a home together and Jane agreed.
HOW DID THEY PROPOSE? & HOW DID YOU REACT?
T: I proposed over a private candlelit dinner on the beach in the Maldives.
J: it was a definite yes!
WHAT DO YOU THINK MAKES YOU WORK SO WELL AS A COUPLE?
J: We are quite different but compliment each other and have the same morals and values and make each other laugh. At the heart of our relationship is a strong love of family and our six beautiful daughters.
Thanks so much for giving us such a sweet insight into your relationship. It's no wonder you remember each others smiles when you first met, you didn't stop smiling and laughing together this entire photo session! It was such fun. I cannot wait to come along to the stunning venue The Westmill, Derby, to shoot your wedding. Bring it on!
