Another week in the Meribel Valley, and another week of incredible music and partying! Here is another week and another photo diary from me and my camera; sneaking around on stage, and capturing you lovely mountain folk, having the best time. It's a tough job this..
(NB- Please do not rip photos from the blog for sharing on social media. If you'd like to use photos, just give me a shout at email@example.com. Cheers!)
Piste Bash is an event which crosses many venues and public spots across Meribel, with a jam-packed schedule of local talent, regular favourites and huge names. It's a logistical feat! My coverage centred around the ski hub of the Chaudanne.. the spot at which all the ski lifts and home-runs converge. The stage looked out from it's peaked hat, and up to the mountain tops which stood statuesquely above it. Hearing the music thump up the valley whist riding down the piste, gave you the excitement which apres always does.. but BIGGER.
And it wasn't just about the music. Evolution Bar and Restaurant, alongside Jacks Bar, served cold beers on tap all day, and a taste of their delicious restaurant menu. Local clothing and gear brands also had stalls in the festival, with everyone from Gnar Gnar Bazaar, to Planks, to Cab 9 selling their wares. It all kicked up a gear on Friday too, with the street food vibes.
I joined the already sunny vibes of the festival, with PeteBox's insane beatbox skills. Dutty Moonshine followed with his bouncy party vibes, to the back drop of happy people drinking cold beers and dancing in the sunshine. By the time Krafty Kuts and Chali 2na graced the stage, the crowd was fully warmed up and psyched to hear some of their favourite classic hiphop. And what a guy.. the smile that would break out across Charli 2na's face between verses was infectious, and entirely endearing. His love for hiphop was entirely present, and his absorption in working on the graf during the afternoon was testament to that. What an afternoon.
How do you top Wednesday? Well the line up was of an entirely different hue, with a fancy dress "Under the Sea" theme, which reminded me of Jack's Bar style of fun! There were stalls from Evolution, Jacks Bar, Scotty's and Tsaretta Spice, serving up their own yummy takes on street food. The music started with The Meribel All Stars- a band made up of some of the best talent, plucked from valley's most popular bands. Following that, was a brilliant set from Mr Clean, who definitely looked the part in fancy dress! Ze Funkin English did their thing in keeping everyone dancing too.. But then.. then the stage was filled with musicians. Collectively named Lazy Habits. Two live drummers smashing out the tightest beats over a delicious horn section, bass and rhymes. Their energy was incredible.
Huge thanks to the whole Piste Bash Team, and everyone involved in making this happen.. Everyone from crew on the day, to those on logistics to the acts that entertained! Bring on PB 2018!
